Houston Roundball Review Archive: April 2007 - Lindsey Harding Receives 3 more Honors

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

CLEVELAND, OH -- The 2007 WBCA Awards Luncheon (honoring the top players in the country) took place today; and, Duke senior guard (and Cy Fair High School's own) Lindsey Harding received three more honors to add to her collection.

Harding was presented awards for winning the "Robin Roberts / WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship"; the "Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award"; and the inaugural "WBCA National Defensive Player of the Year".

Following the presentation, Harding spoke to a few members of the media. Here's a few of her comments: "...everyone played basketball..."

After speaking with Lindsey, I introduced myself to Lindsey's father; and, he, politely, took me (and the Houston media) to task for doing a poor job following Lindsey's stellar college career at Duke and informing the people of Houston.

Mr. Harding told me Lindsey always mentions Houston as the city she's from; however, the Houston media never reciprocated by covering her college career.

The HRR is a small fish in a big Houston media pond; but, I apologized to him; and, I told him I'll try to do a better job covering Lindsey's WNBA (and USA Basketball) career.

Chris I agree with Mr Harding but what I have noticed is that Girls/Womens basketball is really not all that important to Houston media.

You have kids like Takia Starks at TAMU along with Jessica Morrow and Jhasmin Player at Baylor who are having solid careers but no one is keeping up wih them.

Our 2005 class had numerous major D1 signees and being a father with a big time player, at least in my eyes, it would be nice to see something like where are they now or what they are doing but for Harding to do what she did and not get much run is not good.

I completely agree with you. I can't nor will I speak for the rest of the Houston media; but, I will try to do better in the near future.

I started covering the Aggies and Big 12 women's hoops last season; and, I developed a good relationship with Coach Blair.

My plan is to keep track of Sydney throughout her career. (She might get tired of talking to me.)

Since it's from a few months ago, you had to dig for this blog post. Thanks for your comments.
