Houston Roundball Review Archive: July 2007 - Karleen Thompson: "Take care of the ball"

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- The Houston Comets played well enough to win once again; but, they lost (again) to the Phoenix Mercury Tuesday night 76 to 74.

The Comets turned the ball over 21 times in the game.

Despite the great shot attempt forward Tina Thompson had at the end of the game, Karleen Thompson told the media the game should not have come down to the last play.

Listen to her comments: "...take care of the ball..."

The Comets are now 8 and 18 on the season with just eight regular season games remaining.

The biggest "turnover" of the game was by Karleen herself. She waited two plays too late to call a time out when PHX took the lead in the 4th quarter. She should have called the time out sooner and refocus the team...THIS IS KARLEEN'S LOSS, AND SHE NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.

can her answers be more "coachspeak" than that? same ole sheet!

question Kris. Is it Sancho as Karleen says it or Soncho - pronunciation-wise? It's driving me nuts!

As long as I've know Saint, she pronounces her name as Soncho.

Even when I ask Karleen about "Soncho", she always pronounces her name as "Sancho".
