Houston Roundball Review Archive: February 2007 - Tulane Ends Lady Coogs' home win streak

Thursday, February 1, 2007

Thursday night at Hofheinz Pavilion, the Tulane Green Wave showed the Houston Lady Cougars why Tulane is considered the top team in C-USA.

Tulane (18-4, 7-2) took advantage of turnovers and mental errors by Houston (7-12, 4-5) the last six minutes and 19 seconds of the first half to turn a tie game at 22 into a 71 to 56 rout.

Houston had won six straight games at Hofheinz Pavilion before Thursday's loss.

Tulane finished the first half outscoring Houston 15 to 4 to lead 37 to 26 at halftime.

Tulane's Nikki Luckhurst scored 10 of her game-high 20 points during the run to demoralize Houston.

Houston never recovered from Luckhurst's scoring outburst the rest of the ball game.

Houston's Tye Jackson struggled shooting the basketball the entire game.

Jackson shot 5 for 21 from the field and 10 for 15 from the foul line; however, she did add 10 rebounds and nine assists.

As a team, Houston shot an awful 28.3% (17 for 60) from the field for the game while Tulane made 27 of their 67 field goal attempts and 11 for 16 from the free throw line.

The Lady Cougars committed 22 turnover in the ball game.

After the game Houston head coach Joe Curl said, "...I'm just really disappointed..."
