POSTED: June 21, 2022 -- 11:53 a.m. CT
Tuesday morning, Rice men's basketball head coach Scott Pera announced the addition of Cullen Neal as Video Coordinator.
“Cullen Neal will be a terrific addition to our staff and will play a valuable role as our new video coordinator,” said Pera. “He has been around the game his entire life, he was a terrific player and knows what it is like to be on the coaching side of the profession. I look forward to Cullen growing in his new role and being an outstanding addition to our program.”
Neal joins the Owls after spending last year as a Graduate Assistant at Nevada. Prior to entering coaching, Neal spent two years playing professionally in Poland in Germany, averaging 15.4 points and 3.2 assists over his two seasons.
Neal began his collegiate career at New Mexico (2013-16), helping the Lobos to an NCAA Tournament appearance as a freshman. In three years, he averaged 9.9 points and 2.8 assists, including a career-best 12.3 in 2015-16 as a redshirt sophomore. As a freshman, he made the Mountain West All-Academic Team and was the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Two years later, he was a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree as well as a member of the NABC Good Works Team.
