6'9, 250, Mylyjael Poteat announces his commitment to the Rice Owls

Monday, Head Coach Scott Pera and the Rice Owls men's basketball program received good news when big man Mylyjael Poteat announced his decision to continue his academic and athletic career at Rice University.

Currently, Poteat is a senior at The Burlington School in Burlington, North Carolina.
Poteat's skillset is evolving; and, his game has been described as "oozing with upside and potential".
Rick Lewis of Phenom Hoop Report, provides details about Poteat's skillset in a "Stock on the Rise" summary:
'Since the beginning of August, Poteat has loss 25 pounds and continues to work on transforming his body...We're talking about a fundamentally sound big that has excellent hands and footwork in the paint, not to mention he has an enormous wingspan that allows him to play even bigger than his 6’9 listed height.'
Lewis added, 'His best days are definitely ahead and could be an All Conference type player especially at the mid-major level.'

When asked why he decided to commit to Rice, Poteat said, "I feel that I fit perfectly within Coach Pera and Rice's style of play.
"I fell in love with the entire staff and team. I was super impressed with what goes on behind the scenes in terms of player development.
"Coach Pera has also instilled supreme confidence in me, about his vision for Rice basketball. On top of that, off the court they are a great university where I really see myself flourishing."
The Early Period for Division I basketball to sign National Letters of Intent (NLI) to attend Division I schools is November 13 to November 20. The Regular Period for Division I basketball to sign an NLI is April 15, 2020 to May 20, 2020.
