Houston Cougars 12th in Coaches' Poll; 12th in AP Poll; 6th in NCAA's NET Rankings

With Saturday's 69-64 loss to the UCF Knights, the Houston Cougars (27-2) moved down 6 spots to 12th in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 and moved down 4 spots to 12th in the Associated Press Top 25 national polls. Both polls were announced Monday. In addition to those polls, Houston moved up to 4th in the NCAA's latest NET rankings.
Houston received 444 points to rank No. 12 in the Week 17 USA TODAY Coaches' Poll (600 points and 6th in the Week 16 poll). Houston received 895 points to rank 12th in the Week 18 Associated Press Top 25 Poll (8th last week with 1,145 points in the Week 17 poll).
As of the games played through March 3rd Houston is ranked 6th in the NCAA's NET Rankings. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.
The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.
It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.
The Coogs' next game is Thursday, March 7, vs SMU, at 8 p.m., on ESPN. The game is Houston's final home game of the season and also Senior Night. Houston will honor the seniors on this year's team: Breaon BradyCorey Davis, Jr., Landon Goesling, and Galen Robinson, Jr..
