Rockets Sign Free Agent Josh Okogie

Tuesday afternoon, the Houston Rockets announced they have signed free agent guard Josh Okogie. The contract is a 1-year deal for $3.1 million.
Okogie (6'4", 210) was the 20th overall pick by Minnesota in the 2018 NBA Draft following his sophomore season at Georgia Tech. In seven NBA seasons, he has appeared in 416 games with 167 starts while averaging 6.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.93 steals in 19.1 minutes per game.
He began last season with Phoenix prior to being acquired by Charlotte in mid-January. In 40 combined games for the Suns and Hornets, Okogie averaged 1.20 spg in 15.6 mpg. Dating back to 1995-96, he became the second player (Jose Alvarado in 2021-22) with at least 40 games played in a season to have averaged at least 1.20 spg while playing fewer than 16.0 mpg. Of players with at least 40 games played in 2024-25, Okogie ranked fourth in steals per 36 minutes played (2.8).
Okogie was born in Lagos, Nigeria and represented their national team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
