Rockets Sign Cameron Matthews
Posted: July 13, 2025 -- 3:20 p.m. CT
Sunday afternoon, the Houston Rockets announced they have signed forward Cameron Matthews. According to The Athletic's Kelly Iko, the contract is an Exhibit-10 deal.
Exhibit 10 contracts are non-guaranteed but include bonuses of up to $85K if the player is waived and then spends at least 60 days with his team's G League affiliate. In Matthews' case, that G League team would be the Rio Grande Vipers. Exhibit 10 contracts can also be converted into two-way deals, so Matthews will try to make his case for a promotion during Summer League and training camp.
Matthews (6'7", 235) was eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft following his graduate senior season at Mississippi State. He appeared in a school record 167 games and left as the Bulldogs all-time leader in steals. Matthews was named to the All-SEC Defensive Team by conference coaches in each of his final two seasons.
In 2024-25, Matthews averaged 7.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.4 steals (tied for ninth in the nation). Dating back to 1990-91, only nine other Division I players reached his totals for points, rebounds, assist and steals in a season, including Penny Hardaway (1991-92) and C.J. McCollum (2011-12).
The Rockets have also waived guard / forward Nate Williams. He appeared in a total of 42 games for Houston over the past two seasons.
