Rockets Sign Free Agent Dorian Finney-Smith

Monday morning, the Houston Rockets announced they have signed free agent forward Dorian Finney-Smith. The deal is, reportedly, for 4 years, $52.7 million. The Rockets used most of the NBA's Non-Taxpayer Midlevel Exception to sign Finney-Smith. According to Spotrac.com, Finney-Smith's contract includes $26,035,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $13,176,250. In 2025-26, Finney-Smith will earn a base salary of $12,700,000.

The 2027-28 season is non-guaranteed (becomes fully guaranteed on 6/29/27. The 2028-29 season has a Player Option and becomes guaranteed on 6/29/28.

Dorian Finney-Smith

In nine seasons for Dallas, Brooklyn and the Los Angeles Lakers, Smith (6'7", 225) has appeared in 434 games with 322 starts while averaging 8.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 3-pointers made in 28.0 minutes per game. Finney-Smith joins Robert Covington and Wesley Matthews as the only undrafted players in NBA history with career totals of at least 4,500 points, 2,500 rebounds, 450 steals and 900 3-pointers made.

Finney-Smith began last season with the Nets prior to being acquired by the Lakers in late December. In 63 combined games with 40 starts, he averaged 8.7 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 1.4 apg along with 2.0 3FGM on a career-best 41.1% shooting. Finney-Smith was one of eight players with 50-plus games played in 2024-25 to have defended an average of at least 11.0 shot attempts while playing fewer than 30.0 minutes per game.

During the Mavericks run to the Western Conference Finals in 2022, Finney-Smith started all 18 games while averaging 11.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 2.6 3FGM on 42.6% shooting. He had a combined defensive field goal percentage of .391 over his past two postseasons (2023 with Brooklyn and 2025 with the Lakers).
