Rockets to Celebrate Houston's Unofficial Holiday with "713 Day of Basketball"
Posted: July 10, 2023 -- 5:48 p.m. CT
On July 13, also known in date format as 7/13 which are the digits of Houston's original area code, the Houston Rockets will launch a large-scale campaign called “713 Day of Basketball” to help the city celebrate its unofficial holiday and give back to the community while bringing some excitement for hoop fans this offseason.
As the highlight of the campaign, the Rockets will host seven free youth basketball clinics at community centers throughout the city. The Rockets partnered with Houston Parks and Recreation Department to fill these clinics with children who will be taught basic basketball skills. Each child who participates will also receive a “713 Day of Basketball” t-shirt and a voucher for a special $7.13 ticket to select Rockets games during the upcoming season.
Former Rocket Gerald Green and NBA shooting coach, Chris Matthews -- who has nearly 2.5 million followers on Instagram -- will attend the clinic at Moody Community Center.
The Rockets are also incentivizing fans to post videos of themselves playing basketball on social media, even if it's just shooting a piece of paper into a trash can. Each person who posts a video of them playing basketball on social media on 713 Day while using the hashtag #Rockets713 will receive a $7.13 ticket voucher to a Rockets game in 2023-24.
Other “713 Day of Basketball” activations can be found on Rockets.com and through the team's social pages that include scavenger hunts, summer league watch parties and free places to play basketball.
