Bryce Jackson Commits to the Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Program

POSTED: October 13, 2024 -- 4:12 p.m. CT

Saturday morning, Bryce Jackson, 6'6", 205, from Shadow Creek HS, announced his commitment to Houston Cougars Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Houston Cougars Men's Basketball program.

Jackson and his family took an official visit to Houston's campus last weekend. Jackson has battled injuries the last 2 seasons; however, he's healthier now and has returned to action on the basketball court. Prior to his injuries, Jackson was considered, by many, to be the top high school player in the Houston area among the Class of 2025 prospects.

Bryce's dad, Luke Jackson, played at Syracuse from 1992-95 and Bryce's grandfather, Lucious "Luke" Jackson Sr., was an NBA All-Star, who played eight seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers (1964 to 1972) and was a member of the 76ers' 1967 NBA Championship Team.

Jim Hicks, NBPA Top 100 Selection Committee and Hall-of-Fame inductee PVIL-CA, about Bryce:

"Bryce may be the first ever American bred Coog offered who has not played a regular season game in 10th or 11th grade. It is rumored the Houston Staff first offered a scholarship to Bryce during his 9th grade year.

"The devotion and development of (Houston Cougar basketball player) Ramon Walker within the program, may have very well reinforced their beliefs in the future of Bryce within the program. He is not flamboyant. He's not overly active on social media and not an attention seeker. However, everyone seems to notice every time he touches the court."

Herb Baker, former pro basketball player and longtime basketball enthusiasts:

"Bryce is a super talented kid, that has endured a great deal early in his career. He was considered the top prospect in 2025 class after his freshman year. He's been able to develop his body while not putting too many miles on his legs. I know his family well. They're hard working people that don't make excuses. He's been an excellent student as well as teammate when he wasn't able to play.

"He's a versatile wing that impacts the game in a number of ways and makes winning plays. I see him being a fan favorite and becoming as a Cougar legend when it's all said and done."

Doug Jones, RCS Sports' Director of Scouting:

"Fits the UH culture. Before injuries was the best player in his class. Fierce defender, competitor. Big strong body that has a really good skill set on the offensive end. Sneaky GREAT GET for Coogs!"

Marcus Sloan, OTR Exposure:

"Great size at 6'7", multidimensional, can shoot it from 3, good handle and is a good athlete. Great leader and winner. Toughness and understands how to play the game. Will be a great culture guy for the Coogs, has all of the intangibles that Kelvin Sampson loves."

Bryce Jackson joins Isiah Harwell in Houston's Class of 2025 commitments. Harwell announced his commitment to Houston on September 12.
