Toby Bailey Traded to Phoenix

June 24, 1998

"Bailey goes to Suns"

The LA Lakers traded the draft rights to G Toby Bailey (45th overall) to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for future considerations.

Note:

  • The “future considerations” is reportedly to be an undisclosed amount of cash.

Who got the better of the deal?

Phoenix.

Why?

Bailey gives the Suns something for nothing. He has to make the roster; but, if he does, he’s a 4 year college player who is athletic, a good passer and defender, and loves to play in the transition game. He could back up G Rex Chapman who wants to re-sign with the Suns.

The Lakers have enough Bailey type players with Eddie Jones, Kobe Bryant, and draft picks Sam Jacobson, and Ruben Patterson. Bailey won’t be missed.
