Doug West Heads to Vancouver

February 18, 1998: "Peeler Heads to Minnesota for the last of the original T-wolves"

The Minnesota Timberwolves traded G Doug West, one of the first players in franchise history, to the Vancouver Grizzlies in exchange for G Anthony Peeler.

1997 - ‘98 Salaries:

Doug West, Vanc.: $2.535 M

Anthony Peeler, Minn.: $2.1 M

Notes:

  • West’s contract runs through 2000 - 01.

Who got the better of the deal?

Vancouver.

Why?

Peeler should feel great.  He begged out of Vancouver and goes to Minnesota with a great shot of making the playoffs.  Doug West should feel awful. After toiling through all the problems of being on an expansion team, then making the playoffs last season, West returns to an expansion team.

Peeler, 28, should provide Minnesota with some much needed scoring since F Tom Gugliotta continues to visit doctors about how to best remedy the bone chips in his right ankle.

West, 31, has suffered nagging injuries (hip, back, hamstring) all season which have limited his performance and hurt his productivity.
