Dale Ellis Traded to Hornets

January 19, 2000

“Ellis Dealt to Hornets”

The Milwaukee Bucks traded swingman Dale Ellis to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for second round draft picks in 2000 and 2002.

1999 - 2000 Player Salary:

Dale Ellis, Cha.: $2.095 M

Who got the better of the deal?

Milwaukee.

Why?

Ellis didn’t want to be in Milwaukee and he began to bitch and complain. He didn’t see any game action from December 4 thru January 4. The Bucks can use his salary slot for trade purposes for up to one year. The draft picks probably won’t result in any player who’ll help the club.

Bucks GM Ernie Grunfeld said the Bucks made the move to clear up playing time for younger players on the bench.

The Hornets acquired Ellis to fill the void of Bobby Phills who died in an automobile accident. If Ellis comes to the Hornets with a positive attitude, he’ll give the Hornets some much needed three point shooting. However, at 39, Ellis is not a good defender or rebounder; but, he won’t be asked to provide those skills. His main job will be to knock down the threes.
