Bulls Acquire Greg Anthony from Blazers

July 20,

The Chicago Bulls acquired G Greg Anthony from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for a 2002 second round draft pick.

Note:

  • The draft pick the Blazers receive is from Toronto which the Bulls had acquired in the Charles Oakley - Brian Skinner trade.
  • Anthony is a free agent after the 2002 - 2003 season.

2001 - 2002 Player Salary:

Greg Anthony, Chi: $3 M.

Who got the better of the deal?

Chicago.

Why?

Since Chicago’s first round draft pick G Jamal Crawford apparently suffered a season - ending ACL injury in a pick-up game on Tuesday, the Bulls needed a point guard. Along with Oakley, Anthony should give the Bulls another veteran who can help the young players on the squad mature and develop.

Anthony is a good spot up three point shooter as well as a good on the ball defender. He didn’t see many minutes last season due to injuries and playing behind guard Damon Stoudamire.

Obtaining Anthony does not mean Chicago won’t sign free agent point guard Tim Hardaway.
