Not only will these four young ladies fill our needs, but they are certain to make an immediate impact on the court, in the classroom and in our community here on South Main," Edmonds said. "Proven winners on the court, Jordin, Mylee, Hanna and Skyla are outstanding students who will thrive at this elite university, but more importantly, they are remarkable young women who embody the core values of our program. We are thrilled to welcome them and their families into our Owl family. The future of Rice women's basketball continues to be bright!
Jordin Blackmon – 5'10" – GUARD
Hometown: Inglewood, Calif.
High School: Bishop Montgomery High School (Head Coach Rheina Ale)
AAU Program: Why Not Premier (Head Coach Marlon Wells)
About Blackmon: Blackmon has achieved a high level of success during her high school years, claiming three Del Rey League titles in addition to being crowned the 2023-24 D1 State Champions. Last season's state title was the school's first since 2003, with Blackmon leading the team to a 23-5 record. A three-year letterwinner, Blackmon is also a three-time All-CIF Team, two-time First Team Open Division, two-time league MVP, a 2023-24 All-American and already a 1,000-point scorer.
In addition to basketball, Blackmon carries a 4.0 GPA and is a three-year principal's honor roll honoree.
Bishop Montgomery coach Rheina Ale on Blackmon: "It's been a rewarding experience to witness the growth of JB as a player and a young woman over the past three years as her high school coach. She is a relentless competitor, with a desire to improve and grow her game, which is something you cannot teach - she just came with it. The recruiting process can be overwhelming for most, but JB knew what was important to her and made a decision that felt right for her. When she called to tell me the news, you could hear the excitement and joy in her voice and I truly believe she found a forever home at Rice. She will be a great asset to the program and will grow even more under Coach Lindsay's leadership and I'm so excited to be on the sidelines cheering her on next season!"
Jason Key (Premier Basketball National Scout) on Blackmon: "Jordin Blackmon is a 5'10 four-star guard out of Bishop Montgomery HS in CA. Blackmon is a dynamic playmaking guard. Blackmon's ability to score on all three levels, as well as her size and length on the defensive end, gives her the ability to have an instant impact for Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds' Rice University program."
Coach Edmonds on Blackmon: "Jordin is an incredible talent and we are ecstatic to bring her to Rice! It speaks volumes about our university and our program to have a young woman from California come all the way to Texas because she believes in what we are building here at Rice. She is proof that with the prestige of this university we can recruit accomplished student-athletes from anywhere in the country. At 5'10, and with her skillset, she brings exceptional size and versatility to the guard position for us. Not only can JB score at all three levels but because of her frame and athleticism, we also expect her to be an extraordinary defender and rebounder. Jordin has great feel for the game, is adept at setting up her teammates to score and has the ability to take over a game in crunch time. Beyond her basketball talent, Jordin is a tough, hard-nosed competitor with a love for being in the gym. She has the ability to take us to great heights during her Rice career and I cannot wait to be her coach."
Mylee Guinn – 5'11" – GUARD
Hometown: Frisco, Texas
High School: Prestonwood Christian Academy (Head Coach Elgin Hollins)
AAU Program: Pro Skills (Head Coach Taylor Johnston)
About Guinn: A three-year letterwinner, Guinn has earned numerous accolades over her high school career, including the Texas District 9-5A Newcomer of the Year. During her junior campaign, she averaged 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, earning the District 9-5A MVP honor, which she also earned her sophomore year. Entering her senior year, Guinn has amassed over 1,500 points and 800 rebounds.
In addition to basketball, Guinn is a member of the National Honor Society. She has two sisters, one who currently plays volleyball at Texas A&M.
Pro Skills coach Taylor Johnston on Guinn: "Coaching Mylee has truly been a blessing. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to coach Mylee last summer. Mylee is an athletic wing who can shoot it behind the arc but also can create and get to the rim. Congratulations to the Guinn Family on this great day. She will fit right in with the Rice family."
Jason Key (Premier Basketball National Scout) on Guinn: "Mylee Guinn is a 5'11 three-star guard out of Plano Prestonwood HS in TX. Guinn is known for her skill as a three-point shooter as well as her length and tenacity on the defensive end as well as on the boards. Guinn's game is a perfect fit for Edmonds' system."
Coach Edmonds on Guinn: "I am thrilled to add Mylee to our family! Standing at 5'11, Mylee is an extremely talented and long guard whose presence will be immediately felt on the court. She has a beautiful shot from behind the arc but can also create off the bounce and use her athleticism to get to her pull up game or to the rim with ease. Mylee has great court vision and, because of her ability to get off the floor quickly, we anticipate that she will make a big impact on the boards on both ends. Mylee is a competitor through and through and her insatiable work ethic and significant personal character is undeniable as she pushes herself to improve in all aspects of her game. Her future at Rice is going to be incredibly bright and I'm excited to see her success at the college level.
Hanna Hilberth – 6'6" – CENTER
Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden
High School: Lulea Gymansieskolor (Head Coach Christer Stjernborg)
About Hilberth: Hilberth helped guide her team to a league title in Sweden's second-best league, while also claiming three Swedish Championships with her former school. Hilberth has also collected numerous MVP honors during the Swedish Championships. She was also a member of the U15, U16 and U18 Swedish national teams.
In addition to basketball, Hilberth has had honorable mention honors for academics with a 3.97 GPA.
Swedish basketball coach Mikeal Johansson on Hilberth: "I'm so happy and proud of Hanna that she got this opportunity to play and study at Rice. She is very coachable and such a team-oriented player. I am confident that her size will be helpful on both offense and defense. Hanna loves to learn and it will be very fun to follow her next steps in her basketball career at Rice"
Coach Edmonds on Hilberth: "At 6'6, Hanna is a very skilled post player with college-ready size that fits seamlessly with our four-out, one-in system. Not only is she a tremendous presence on the block with the ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways, she is incredibly mobile for her size and runs the floor very well. Hanna's feel for the game allows her to be an elite passer which will contribute well to our style of play and allow her teammates to get great looks at the basket. Hanna brings a positive and fun-loving attitude, while being a tireless worker, which will allow her to be a terrific teammate. I truly feel like Hanna's best basketball is ahead of her and I am very excited for my staff and I to help her grow and continue to develop her game during her career here. She is yet another example of how the reputation of Rice University allows us to recruit across the country and across the globe.
Skyla Tuthill – 5'11" – GUARD
Hometown: Summerville, South Carolina
High School: Ashley Ridge High School (Head Coach Jimmy Brown)
AAU Program: Southeast Allstars (Head Coach Brandon Clay)
About Tuthill: Tuthill's team went 26-8 record last season, claiming the Region 8-5A championship. She was named Region 3-4A Player of the Year at her previous school and was named All-State, already surpassing 1,000 career points. Her freshman season Tuthill averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists per game.
In addition to basketball, Tuthill is a Scholar Athlete award winner, a Beta Club member and a honor roll honoree. Her mother played basketball and volleyball at Adelphi University.
Southeast Allstars coach Brandon Clay on Tuthill: "Skyla's presence helped elevate our club to an elite level on the national circuit. She is a perfect example of what dedication and hard work look like at the high school level. Skyla and her family have made multiple sacrifices to make sure she was prepared for the chance to earn a scholarship to Rice. In the process, Skyla has become one of the premier players in South Carolina. Her skill set on the floor is enhanced on a daily basis by her willingness to work off of it. Skyla is in a select group of players that I've been around the last 20 plus years who take their craft as seriously as she does. Rice landed a fantastic basketball player and an even better human being."
Jason Key (Premier Basketball National Scout) on Tuthill: "Skyla Tuthill is a 5'11 three-star wing out of Ashley Ridge HS in NC. Tuthill brings another skilled shooter and scorer to Edmonds' Rice program. A staple of Edmonds' program is the ability to score and shoot it from three while also having length on the defensive end. Tuthill fits all of those categories perfectly."
Coach Edmonds on Tuthill: "Skyla was the first player in the class to commit to us and really ignite excitement around this class. Not only is Skyla a talented basketball player, but she has a contagious and positive spirit that draws in all around her. She is a 5'11 sharp-shooter and I have enjoyed watching her grow in her playmaking ability, both for herself and others, fueled by her tireless work ethic and determination to succeed. At her size I anticipate that she will be a force on the boards on both ends of the court. Skyla is an engaging teammate and a constant encourager and motivator for those around her. She thrives when she is challenged as well as in competitive, pressure-filled situations and I couldn't be happier that Skyla is an Owl!"
