AAC Announces REVISED 2024-25 Rice Owls WBB Conference Schedule

POSTED: October 2, 2024 -- 12:34 p.m. CT

The American Athletic Conference has released the conference schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 Rice women's basketball season, a schedule that features an 18-game conference slate for the reigning champions of the AAC.

The Owls are coming off a historic 2023-24 season, highlighted by being crowned champions of the AAC in the team's debut season, the first-ever AAC title for Rice Athletics. Rice secured its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history and its first trip since 2019.

The 2024-25 season marks the fourth season at Rice for Shelley Pennington and Friends Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds. Rice will return 12 from last season's squad, including All-AAC Third Team selection and AAC Tournament MVP Malia Fisher. The Owls also have top scorers returning in Dominique Ennis, Emily Klaczek and Sussy Ngulefac.

The Owls' quest to defend their AAC title will begin on Dec. 29 at Tudor Fieldhouse against South Florida. Rice will then head to New Orleans, La., to battle Tulane on New Year's Day.

The road swing continues on Jan. 8 for a short trip to UTSA, followed by a home matchup with Memphis on Jan. 12.

The Owls will have another short road trip to Denton, Texas, on Jan. 15 to take on North Texas before coming back to Houston to face East Carolina on Jan. 18.

Rice will then see five of its next seven games on the road, starting at UAB (Jan. 22) and Charlotte (Jan. 25). The Owls return home for Tulsa on Jan. 29 before a trip to the Sunshine State to face Florida Atlantic on Feb. 1.

A quick stop at home on Feb. 5 against Tulane will be followed by another road swing at South Florida (Feb. 12) and Wichita State (Feb. 15).

Rice rounds out the regular season with four of the final five games at home, beginning with Florida Atlantic on Feb. 18. Matchups with UTSA (Feb. 22) and UAB (Feb. 25) sets up the final road contest at Temple on Feb. 28.

The regular season concludes March 4 at Tudor Fieldhouse against North Texas.

Rice's non-conference schedule includes games against six postseason teams from last season, South Dakota State (NCAA), N.C. A&T (WNIT), at Gonzaga (NCAA), vs. BYU (WBIT), vs. Vermont (WNIT) and at Georgia Tech (WBIT).

The Owls will see several local rivals coming to Tudor Fieldhouse with Houston, Sam Houston and Texas Southern all making the trip to South Main.

TV assignments and game times will be released at a later time.
