Rice Women's Hoops Announces 2023-24 Non-Conference Schedule

Rice women's basketball head coach Lindsay Edmonds announced the Owls' 2023-24 non-conference schedule on Wednesday afternoon, including several postseason teams from last season and several Power-5 opponents.
The 2023-24 season marks the third season at Rice for Edmonds and also marks the first season for Rice in The American (AAC).
"I'm really excited to announce our non-conference schedule for the 2023-24 season," Edmonds said. "We have really challenged ourselves yet again and will face an AP ranked/NCAA tournament team, two WNIT tournament teams, and three Power 5's. I'm really looking forward to seeing where we stack up against those teams and for the opportunity to allow our young team the ability to continue to grow. We're hoping to be battle-tested before we get into the tough conference play of the American Athletic Conference."
Rice will host Angelo State for an exhibition on Nov. 1, before opening the season on Nov. 6 against Houston Christian at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Owls will travel for a quick road swing at Abilene Christian (Nov. 9) and will head to Fort Worth to take on TCU (Nov. 12) in the Owls first of back-to-back games against Power-5 opponents. Rice will then head back to Tudor Fieldhouse where they will welcome the ACC's Georgia Tech (Nov. 16) and St. Mary's (CA) on Nov. 19.
Rice will have a quick road trip to face Stephen F. Austin (2023 WNIT participant) on Nov. 25 before returning back to Tudor Fieldhouse on Nov. 29 to face Texas Southern.
The closing slate of non-conference foes will feature high-caliber opponents starting on Dec. 2 when the Owls head south to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2023 WNIT participant). Rice will head back to Tudor Fieldhouse on Dec. 9 when the Owls host AP-ranked and 2023 NCAA Tournament participant Gonzaga.
The Owls will then welcome Prairie View A&M on Dec. 16 and will close the non-conference season at the Fertitta Center against cross-town rival Houston on Dec. 20.
The American conference opponents/schedule will be released at a later time.
Here are the final NET rankings (as of last season, April 2, 2023) of the Coogs' non-conference opponents for the 2023-24 season:
Home: Houston Christian (306), Georgia Tech (77), Saint Mary's CA (193), Texas Southern (339), Gonzaga (49), Prairie View A&M (289)
