Ashlee Austin, Malia Fisher, and Destiny Jackson Earn All-Conference USA Honors

Posted: March 7, 2022 -- 4:38 p.m. CT

Rice women's basketball sophomores Ashlee Austin and Destiny Jackson, along with freshman Malia Fisher, were recognized on Monday by earning Conference USA postseason accolades.

Austin was rewarded for a breakout season by being selected to the All-Conference Second Team following a second sophomore season in which the Johns Creek, GA native is averaging career-highs in almost every statistical category. Austin leads the Owls in scoring at 16.5 points per game, which ranks fifth in C-USA and is fourth among C-USA players in field goal percentage (46.9). Austin has scored in double-figures in 20 of 24 contests and ranks fifth in C-USA in made free throws (113). Austin is the only player in C-USA to rank Top-13 in the league in points per game, field goal percentage, free throws made, and free throw percentage.

Jackson garnered All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades after leading all of C-USA in assists per game (4.7). The Mansfield, TX native is also averaging 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting a team-best 49.7 percent from the field. In her first full season as the team's starting point guard, Jackson has scored in double-figures 13 times and has distributed five or more assists in 12 contests. Jackson ranked 11th in the league during C-USA play in rebounding (6.35 rpg) and was ninth in minutes played (35.6 mpg).

Fisher, from Dacula, GA, was selected to the All-Freshman and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors following a regular season in which she was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week three times and led all freshmen with seven double-doubles. Fisher was the lone player to be named to the All-Freshman Team and also earn All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades. She averaged 10.6 points and 8.4 rebounds and currently ranks third in the NCAA in rebounds per game. She is also ninth in C-USA in blocks per game (1.12) and has scored in double-figures 15 times. Fisher becomes the fifth player in program history to be named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

The Owls (13-12, 8-9) will open up play at the C-USA Championship this Wednesday, March 9, at 11 a.m., when they face the Marshall Thundering Herd on ESPN+.
