Destiny Jackson Named C-USA Player of the Week

Posted: December 12, 2022 -- 1:28 p.m. CT
After dropping a career-high 33 points in Rice's 91-88 double-overtime win against Houston, senior guard Destiny Jackson was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Jackson put on a masterful performance to keep Rice one of 12 teams in the nation unbeaten in a double overtime thrilling win over cross-town rival Houston on Saturday. In a game that saw 11 lead changes and 10 ties, the senior guard dropped a career-high 33 points (12 for 14 fgs; 9 for 10 fts) along with seven boards, five assists, and three steals. Her 33 points marks the highest scoring individual performance this season in Conference USA. The Mansfield, Texas native is now averaging just over 14 points per game, placing her top-10 in C-USA, and has managed to log double-figures in seven of their eight contests thus far.
"What we were able to witness with DJ's game on Saturday afternoon in the double OT win vs Houston was something so incredibly special," said head coach Lindsay Edmonds. "She completely took over the game in a very efficient and effective way. She truly is the heartbeat to our team and her growth over the last year has been so tremendous. DJ is so deserving of this honor and I am beyond happy for her for this recognition."
Jackson's 33-point performance is the most points scored by an Owl this season and nearly doubles her previous career high of 18 points, scored at LA Tech on Feb. 24, 2022. The 33 points came on an incredible 12-of-14 shooting from the floor while going 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Jackson also added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
