Rice Owls to Launch National Search for Next Head Coach

Posted: April 5, 2021 -- 6:03 p.m. CT
Rice Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard announced on Monday he will conduct a national search to identify the next head coach of the Rice Women's Basketball team after former coach Tina Langley accepted the head coaching position at the University of Washington.
"We are grateful to Coach Langley for her terrific leadership as our head coach. She built an elite basketball program over her six-year career, and I'm certain she will drive similar success in the future. She will always be part of the Rice family, and we wish her the very best at Washington.
"We have an incredible foundation in place for women's basketball, including a winning program, top-notch student-athletes, strong university and alumni support, and a world-class institution. As we look for the next leader of our program, we are in a prime position to attract the very best coaches in college basketball to Rice University."
Langley leaves Rice having recorded the highest winning percentage in program history (.673) and a 126-61 overall record. Under her guidance the Owls won two postseason championships, including this year's WNIT in which the Owls went 5-0 and defeated each team by double-digits. The Owls also won the WBI Championship in 2017.
