Rice's Erica Ogwumike Tabbed WBCA All-Region Finalist

POSTED: March 25, 2020 -- 12:04 p.m. CT

Rice senior guard Erica Ogwumike has been selected as an All-Region nominee for the 2020 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team, the organization announced on Wednesday. The selection committee will select the 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team from the All-Region candidates.

Ogwumike represents Region 2 and is the only representative from a Conference USA institution. The back-to-back C-USA Player of the Year, Ogwumike earned a spot on the C-USA First Team for a third consecutive season by leading the league in scoring and rebounding during conference play averaging 21.3 points and 11.6 rebounds while shooting 51.6 percent from the field and 81.6 percent from the free throw line.

Ogwumike was named C-USA Player of the Week a league-high four times and was also a CoSIDA Academic First Team All-American.

The WBCA selection committee uses an equation to determine an equitable number of nominees from each region. The number of NCAA Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of NCAA Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.

The 2020 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team will be announced on Thursday, April 2.
