The Rice men's basketball team will begin the 2025-26 season early when it takes an eight day trip to Belgium and France in August, head coach Rob Lanier announced. The Owls will depart Houston on August 1 before returning to South Main on August 9.
"The opportunity to experience another part of the world is so valuable," said Lanier. "The basketball is certainly a significant part of this, but the experience is much more than that. We are extremely grateful to be able to have this journey together as a program. I expect it to create some lasting memories and strengthen our connection to one another."
Rice will begin the trip in Brussels, spending two days in Belgium's capital city where it will experience a tour of the city before playing its first game. It will then travel to France, spending two days in Lille including playing its second game against a local club.
The Owls will then head to Paris, spending three days exploring France's capital city and playing its final game before traveling back to Houston.
