Rice graduate student guard Trae Broadnax was named American Athletic Conference Honorable Mention for the second time, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Broadnax led Rice to a 2-0 record, its first 2-0 start to conference play since 2020-21. He averaged 10.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.
In the opener at Tulsa, he scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds in a 70-64 victory. His performance helped the Owls snap a 17-game losing streak to Tulsa. Broadnax closed the week scoring 10 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and adding a game-high four assists.
He has opened the season with 15 straight game scoring double-figures, the longest streak since 2016-17. On the week, Broadnax shot 50.0% from the floor.
Rice heads to Denton this Wednesday, Jan. 8, for a nationally-televised tilt at North Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
