Rice Adds Junior College Transfer Jake Lieppert

Rice men's basketball announced Friday afternoon the signing of junior college transfer Jake Lieppert to a national letter of intent for the 2020-21 school year.
Lieppert, a 6'3" guard, spent last season at Pima Community College, where he led the Aztecs to a 19-13 record, including a perfect 12-0 record in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) and a berth in the Region championship game. The Scottsdale, AZ., native was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Third Team All-American after placing fourth in the country with 23.7 points per game and ninth with 7.0 rebounds per game. He also led the nation with 125 three-pointers and was fourth in three-point field goal percentage (41.7%).
Lieppert also averaged 2.5 assists per game and 1.0 steals per game while connecting on 48.8% from the field. He recorded six 30-point games, including a season-high 48 points against Cochise College. His performance helped him earn ACCAC Freshman of the Year, All-ACCAC First Team and All-Region Division II First Team honors.
He played high school basketball at Saguaro High School averaging 22.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists to earn Azcentral.com's All-4A Conference Honorable Mention. As a junior, he averaged 18.5 points and 4.8 rebounds. He also earned All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Lieppert joins Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, NY), Mylyjael Poteat (Reidsville, NC) and Cameron Sheffield (Alpharetta, GA) and transfers Riley Abercrombie (Wollongong, Australia / Boise State) and Travis Evee (Randolph, MA / VMI) in the 2020-21 signing class.
