Rice Adds Three to 2020-'21 Class

Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera announced the signing of Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, NY) and transfers Travis Evee (Randolph, MA/VMI) and Riley Abercrombie (Wollongong, Australia/Boise State).

Hutchins, a 6'0" guard, led IMG Academy to a 19-7 record. At the Park School in Amherst, NY, Hutchins led the Pioneers to a pair of Monsignor Martin and New York State championships.

As a senior, Hutchins averaged 23.4 points, 7.2 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals in leading the Park School to a 25-3 record. He was named the Monsignor Martin Player of the Year, First Team All-State and the Buffalo News Player of the Year, as well as being a McDonald's All-American nominee. In his career, he scored over 1,000 points, averaging 20.6 points, 5.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals.

Evee, 6'1", 165, attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI) this past season. He averaged 12.6 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game for the Keydets as a freshman this season.

Evee started 22 of 33 games for VMI this season and shot 44.1 fg% (143 of 324) -- including 36.2 3pt% (77 of 213) -- and 80.3 ft% (53 of 66).

He was named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year by the media and shared SoCon Freshman of the Year honors as voted by the SoCon coaches.

Abercrombie, a 6'9" forward, joins the Owls after spending the last two years at Boise State. After redshirting as a freshman, he played in 18 games last season, scoring 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He had his best game against Fresno State, scoring six points on a pair of three-pointers.

Abercrombie, who is a native of Wollongong, Australia, played his high school basketball at Clear Lake High School in Houston. He averaged 12.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a senior, helping the Falcons to a 31-6 record and a berth in the quarterfinals of the UIL 6A Texas State Tournament. As a junior, he averaged 10.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, aiding Clear Lake to a 24-9 mark.

The trio join Mylyjael Poteat (Reidsville, NC) and Cameron Sheffield (Alpharetta, GA) in the 2020-21 signing class.
