Rice Owls Men's Basketball Signs 6'6" Damion McDowell, Jr.

Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera announced the signing of Damion McDowell, Jr. (Inglewood, CA) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) for the 2021-22 school year.
McDowell, a 6'6" forward, led St. Bernard Catholic School to a 22-7 record and a runner-up finish in the Del Rey League. He was named South League All-Area and First Team All-Del Rey, as well as Most Outstanding Player and Most Valuable Defensive Player. For his career, he is averaging 19 points, 15 rebounds and six assists per game while connecting on 62% from the floor, 37% from three and 83% from the free throw line.
Coach Pera said, "Today, I would like to announce the signing of Damion McDowell from Inglewood, Ca. Damion brings a tremendous skill set, versatility and toughness to our program. He can play multiple positions on offense and guard multiple positions on defense. He is a relentless competitor and tireless worker. Damion is an outstanding student that will represent Rice University and our program perfectly. He will add to the culture that has been established as we continue to push this program forward. He and Jaden Geron are perfect compliments to each other and make this an outstanding class."
