Jeff Konya appointed to NCAA DI Women's Basketball Committee

POSTED: August 26, 2024 -- 1:35 p.m. CT

San Jose State Director of Athletics Jeff Konya is returning to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee, on which he served in 2017-18.

Konya, who will join the committee immediately and serve through Aug. 31, 2026, will be filling the Mountain West Conference committee position recently vacated by Jenny Bramer, executive associate athletics director at San Diego State. Konya previously served on the committee when he was director of athletics at Oakland.

"I am honored to be invited to join the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee and represent the Mountain West Conference," Konya said. "It's exciting to be returning to the committee at a time of supreme interest and acceleration in the sport of women's basketball. I look forward to working alongside my fellow committee members as basketball season is just around the corner."

Named director of athletics at San Jose State in 2021, Konya previously led the athletic departments at Oakland, Northeastern and California State University, Bakersfield. Konya is a two-time National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Director of the Year (2016-17 and 2020-21), making him one of just four athletic directors in Division I-AAA history to earn the award twice in a four-year span. He also has previous athletic administration experience at Iowa, South Dakota, Bucknell, the University of Texas San Antonio and Memphis.

Konya earned a bachelor's degree in politics from Princeton, where he was a member of the football team, later receiving his juris doctorate from the Iowa College of Law.

He joins a 12-member women's basketball committee in 2024-25 that includes committee chair Derita Dawkins, assistant vice chancellor and deputy director of athletics at Arkansas; DeneƩ Barracato, deputy director of athletics at Northwestern; Jill Bodensteiner, vice president and director of athletics at Saint Joseph's; Amanda Braun, athletics director at Milwaukee and vice chair of the committee in 2024-25; Vicky Chun, director of athletics at Yale; Liz Darger, senior associate athletic director at Brigham Young; Amy Folan, associate vice president and director of athletics at Central Michigan; Alex Gary, director of athletics at Western Carolina; Lizzie Gomez, deputy commissioner at the Southland Conference; Josh Heird, director of athletics at Louisville; and Lynn Tighe, senior associate athletics director at Villanova.
