POSTED: January 15, 2024 -- 3:17 p.m. CT
Iowa State's Audi Crooks (player) and Kansas' S'Mya Nichols (freshman) were tabbed for Big 12 women's basketball weekly awards for the third week of Conference play.
Crooks led Iowa State to a pair of AP Top 25 wins in the same regular season week for the first time since 2009-10. The Algona, Iowa, native had her second career double-double, scoring 22 points with 11 rebounds as the Cyclones erased a 19-point third-quarter deficit to defeat then-No. 24 West Virginia 74-64. The freshman center hit a go-ahead basket with 24 seconds left, which stood as the game-winner, capping a 23-point performance against then-No. 4 Baylor. Crooks averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and shot 57.6 percent from the floor as she collected her first career player of the week nod after two previous freshman of the week selections.
Nichols averaged 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Jayhawks earned their first two wins of Big 12 play. Against then-No. 4 Baylor, the guard from Overland Park, Kansas, scored 22 points, adding six rebounds, three assists and three steals, as KU picked up its first win over a top-five team since 2009. She followed that effort with 17 points against Oklahoma State, making five of her 10 field goals. This is the second weekly award for the former five-star recruit.
