Texas A&M women's hoops lands Adds All-Big Ten Transfer Destiny Pitts

POSTED: May 2, 2020 -- 8:17 p.m. CT

Saturday, Texas A&M Women's Basketball and head coach Gary Blair announced the signing of transfer Destiny Pitts. Pitts spent her first three seasons at Minnesota, where she earned All-Big Ten honors and was the consensus Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2017-18.

Pitts, 5'10" guard / forward, is rated as the second-best transfer player by ESPN.com's Graham Hays. She left Minnesota in January after she was suspended. According to Pitts, she was suspended for bad body language on the bench.

Pitts started 15 games for the Golden Gophers during the 2019-'20 season. She was tabbed as a consensus Preseason All-Big Ten selection. During the year she, became the 25th player in Golden Gophers' history to enter the 1,000-point club. The sharpshooter was named the Big Ten and U.S. Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 15, 2019. She finished her career at Minnesota ranked 4th all-time in three-pointers made (216) and 2nd in free throw percentage (.850%).

She averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, while shooting 46% from the three-point line this season.

Pitts was named to the All-Big Ten First Team during her sophomore campaign. She averaged 16.3 points per game, starting 32 games and raining in 81 three-pointers on the year. Her full set of skills were on display against Boston College (Dec. 8, 2019), where she poured in a career-high 35 points, shooting six of eight from behind the arc and 11 of 12 from the charity stripe.

Head Coach Gary Blair: "Destiny [Pitts] is going to offer us a lot. She is such a great three-point shooter and has proven that in her last two and a half years at Minnesota. This is a kid that has played multiple positions from the two to the four, depending on what technique or scheme they were running. At 5-10 her versatility is what is really going to help us because she gives us the flexibility to move people around. We fell in love with her when we were watching film on her, and then when she came here on her official visit she fit in with our kids like a glove."

"Academically she is a great student, and will be an asset to our program when she graduates. She is also a next level player. I am sure when she is done at A&M that we will see her playing at the next level because of her scoring ability from the outside."
