Chennedy Carter drafted 4th in 2020 WNBA Draft

POSTED: April 17, 2020 -- 9:35 p.m. CT

With the 4th pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft, the Atlanta Dream selected Chennedy Carter from Texas A&M. Carter becomes the highest drafted player in program history.

Carter is the 14th player selected in the WNBA Draft in Texas A&M program history, and the third to be taken by the Dream (Courtney Walker – 2016, Morenike Atunrase – 2008). Carter now overtakes Kelsey Bone as the highest drafted Aggie (5th – 2013) in the WNBA Draft, and joins Bone as the only players from A&M taken in the first round.

"I'm thankful for everything that I've been through this far," Carter said. "To be able to say that I'm now a professional basketball player; and, I can't wait to get started with the Atlanta Dream."

"I'm very excited; ready to get to work; ready to practice; ready to just get going and start my WNBA career off," Carter remarked. "I'm excited what this journey has in store for me."

Carter, from Mansfield, TX, posted eye-popping numbers for the Aggies during her collegiate career.

In just three seasons, Carter reached Texas A&M's career top 10 in points (1,983, 2nd), 10 or more point games (87, 3rd), 20 or more point games (62, 1st), 30 or more point games (13, 1st), field goals made (732, 3rd), field goals attempted (1,698, 3rd), 3-pointers made (148, 6th), 3-pointers attempted (428, 6th), free throws made (371, 3rd), free throws attempted (496, 3rd) and free throw percentage (74.8, 8th).

"One thing I can take from A&M is just the support from everyone there," Carter continued. "From the 12th man, to my teammates, to everyone who put their hand in and worked with the women's basketball group. I learned a lot from going there."
