Angela Harris: "It was hard to make this decision; but, for me and my family, it felt like this is a decision that had to be made.

POSTED: May 4, 2019 -- 5:59 p.m. CT

Friday afternoon, Angela Harris, junior guard, entered the NCAA's Transfer Portal which means she's open to leaving the University of Houston and continuing her athletic and academic career at another university. Harris will graduate from the University of Houston in August; and, she will not return to UH in the fall.

"I need a fresh start," Harris said.

Harris said entering the transfer portal didn't take very long; and, she's already heard from schools hoping to convince her to sign.

"It didn't take long at all," Harris acknowledged. "My name was in there 30 minutes; and, schools are already contacting me. I've heard from a lot of schools today; so, I just got to sit down with my family and set up some visits here real soon."

"I'm sad to leave U of H because this (Houston) is my town. I was born and raised here. I've lived here all my life. It was hard to make this decision; but, for me and my family, it felt like this is a decision that had to be made."

Harris, 5'6", graduated from Cy Fair High School in Cy Fair, TX -- a Houston suburb. She played three season at UH and earned American Athletic Conference honors all three seasons: she was named to the AAC All Freshman Team in 2016-'17; and, she earned back-to-back All-AAC Third Team honors in 2017-'18 and 2018-'19.

"I always wanted to go to grad school at UH," Harris admitted. "But, when the opportunity arose for me to play in a bigger conference, it's hard to pass up."

Harris scored the 1,000 point of her college career this past season and led the Cougars in assists, steals, and three-point attempts.

Harris hopes to make a decision on her new school in June.

"Probably late June. I'll probably be on campus in late August. When school starts, I'll be on the new campus."

"I'm just looking for a school that, of course, has a chance to make the (NCAA) Tournament. I'm not leaving the University of Houston to not play in the Tournament; so, that's pretty much it."
