HBU Announces 2018-19 women's hoops schedule

HBU Huskies
Huskies’ schedule features 15 home games

September 7, 2018

HBU women's basketball Head Coach Donna Finnie announced the Huskies' 2018-'19 women's basketball schedule. The Huskies will face several regional foes in non-conference before Southland Conference play begins.

After facing McMurray November 12, the Huskies face Texas A&M International, November 14, in Sharp Gym, before heading on the road to take on Wichita State November 17. Then, the Huskies return home to face Howard Payne November 21. Next, HBU will take on Big 12 foe Texas Tech, November 24, in Lubbock.

November 27, the Huskies welcome the University of the Southwest to Sharp Gym. Following this match-up, HBU will head on the road for two games: December 5th at North Texas and December 9th at Oklahoma State before returning home to finish up the non-conference schedule against Oral Roberts (December 16) and against ULM (December 19).

"We open this year with two home games which we really wanted to give our newcomers, to settle them into their first outing in a Huskies jersey," Coach Finnie said.

"Our first trip to Kansas to play against American Athletic Conference powerhouse Wichita State will be a very tough test as they have added some very good pieces to their young roster. I like the challenge we will have for our girls playing the Shockers on the road as well as playing the Big 12's Texas Tech Lady Raiders and then North Texas in Denton.

"The trip to Oklahoma State will really test our girls against a team that went to the second round of the NCAA tournament and have a strong returning core."

The first portion of the conference schedule alternates away and home games before mostly alternating every two games for the last 2 months of the regular season.

The Huskies conference schedule begins with a game east bound on I-10 to face Lamar, January 2, before returning home to take on New Orleans January 5. HBU then travels to Louisiana to face Nicholls St., January 12, before returning for a two game home stand against Abilene Christian, January 16, and Sam Houston State, January 19. The two-game homestand is followed by two games in Louisiana against Southeastern Louisiana (January 23) and McNeese St (January 26).

The Huskies then return home against Incarnate Word, January 30, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, February 2, before one game on the road against Stephen F. Austin (February 6).

HBU returns back to Sharp gym for 4 of its last 8 games against Central Arkansas (February 13), Nicholls St (February 16), Lamar (February 27), and lastly McNeese St (March 2). The Huskies end their conference schedule on the road with two games one in San Antonio facing Incarnate Word and the second in Corpus Christi against Texas A&M CC.

"It will be a challenging schedule for our team; but, really prepare us well for what looks to be a very tough conference battle this year," Coach Finnie concluded.

The Southland Conference Tournament will return to the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas March 13-17.
