Texas Southern's Marquia Turner named SWAC Player of the Week

Texas Southern University guard Marquia Turner has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 10. The league made the announcement Tuesday morning.

Turner, a 5'8" graduate transfer senior from Canton, Ohio, scored 26 points in leading the Lady Tigers to a 69-55 victory over Texas-Rio Grande Valley in the team's lone contest of the week. The 26 points represented a career-best for Turner, and her five made three-pointers tied a season-best.

One of the league's top snipers so far this season, Turner has knocked down 49 percent of her three-point attempts on the season, a mark that's tops in the SWAC. She also leads the league in made three-pointers (25) and is averaging 14.4 points per game, a figure that ranks her second in the conference.

This is the second week in a row that a TSU player had earned SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors. Last week, TSU's Niya Mitchell won the SWAC Player of the Week honors.
