BYU's Richie Saunders (player) and Oklahoma State's Abou Ousmane (newcomer) were named Big 12 men's basketball weekly award winners for games ending March 2.
Saunders helped BYU extend its win streak to six games with wins over Arizona State (91-81) and West Virginia (77-56). The junior from Riverton, Utah, scored 26 points against the Sun Devils, matching a career-high with six 3-pointers made. The guard added 13 points in just 25 minutes against the Mountaineers, sitting the last 12:07 of the game with the Cougars up double digits. He posted averages of 19.5 points and 4.0 rebounds to secure his second consecutive player of the week selection.
Ousmane had a 25-point outburst against then-No. 9 Iowa State, helping the Cowboys to their first AP Top 25 win of the season. The senior forward who transferred from Xavier added six rebounds and four steals in the 74-68 win. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native battled foul trouble against Baylor but still managed nine points and six rebounds in just 13 minutes of play. For the week, he averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds to become the first Oklahoma State player to earn a weekly award since 2022-23.
