Kansas State's David N'Guessan (player) and Arizona's Tobe Awaka (newcomer) were bestowed with Big 12 men's basketball weekly honors after helping their respective Wildcats extend the two longest active win streaks in the Conference.
N'Guessan averaged 21.0 points and 7.5 rebounds as K-State picked up its fourth and fifth consecutive wins. The Dutch National Team forward scored a career-high 22 points while shooting 8-of-11 from the field in the 71-70 win at Arizona State, scoring eight of the last 11 Wildcat points in the final 5:31 of the game. N'Guessan had 20 points, seven rebounds and a block against then-No. 16 Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown, finishing his career a perfect 3-0 against the Jayhawks in Bramlage Coliseum after the 81-73 win. It marks his first Big 12 weekly honor.
Awaka notched a pair of 14-point games, averaging 10.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, as Arizona's unbeaten run reached six games, the longest in the Big 12 and tied for the second-longest in a Power 4 conference. The junior from Hyde Park, New York, reached 14 points and nine rebounds in just 18:30 of playing time in the 85-74 win against BYU. The Tennessee transfer had his fifth double-double of the season against No. 12 Texas Tech, as the Wildcats notched an 82-73 win to remain tied atop the Big 12 standings. The forward is the first Arizona player to win Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
