K-State's Tylor Perry, UT's Chendall Weaver Earn Big 12 Men's Basketball Week 17 Awards

POSTED: March 4, 2024 -- 1:18 p.m. CT

Kansas State's Tylor Perry (player) and Texas' Chendall Weaver (newcomer) claimed Big 12 men's basketball awards for Week 17. Each was honored for the first time in their career.

Perry averaged 27.5 points on 63.6 percent shooting (14-of-22), including 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from 3-point range, and 93.8 percent (15-of-16) from the free throw line in helping K-State split games with West Virginia and Cincinnati last week. The senior guard scored a season-high 29 points in the win over West Virginia on just 12 shots, finishing 7-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range, to go with a 9-of-10 effort on free throws. He also added a game-high-tying six assists and four rebounds in nearly 42 minutes of action. Perry continued his strong week with 26 points in a narrow loss at Cincinnati, connecting on 7-of-10 field goals, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range, and 6-of-6 free throws along with three assists and four rebounds in 38 minutes. It marked Perry's team-leading ninth and 10th 20-point games of the season, as he has scored 20 or more points in five of the last nine games.

In UT's two victories, Weaver averaged 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in 26.4 minutes per game. He converted 52.6 percent (10-19) from the floor and 10-of-13 (.769) free throws during the two contests. Weaver was a huge part of the Texas defensive effort that helped limit its two opponents to a combined 38.2 percent (42-110) shooting from the floor, including a 29.3 percent mark (12-41) from three-point range, and posting a +12.5 rebound margin (41.5-29.0). In last Tuesday's win at Texas Tech, the sophomore guard tied his season high with 15 points while hitting a collegiate career-best 9-of-11 free throws and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds to go along with two assists, one block, and one steal in 31 minutes. He returned in Saturday's home victory over Oklahoma State and set his season high in scoring with 16 points while knocking down a collegiate career-best 7-of-12 field goals to go along with four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 22 minutes.
