Texas' Dylan Disu, Baylor's Yves Missi Claim Big 12 Men's Basketball Week 14 Accolades

POSTED: February 12, 2024 -- 1:12 p.m. CT

Texas' Dylan Disu (player) and Baylor's Yves Missi (newcomer) picked up Big 12 men's basketball awards for the 14th week of play. It was the first award for each and Missi is just the second freshman honored this season, joining his teammate Ja'Kobe Walter who garnered the season's first player of the week.

Disu averaged 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in 28.8 minutes per game. He converted 20-of-35 (.571) from the floor, including 10-of-16 (.625) from three-point range, and a perfect 5-of-5 free throws in the two games. Against No. 14/14 Iowa State, the forward registered a game-high 28 points, tied his season-high with 10 rebounds and added three steals, two blocks and two assists in 31 minutes. During Saturday's home victory over West Virginia, he posted a game-high 27 points, three assists without a turnover, two steals and one blocked shot in 26 minutes. His seven 3-pointers marked his collegiate career high. In the first half alone, Disu tallied 19 points (7-7 FG, 5-5 threes) in just 13 minutes of action. He became just the sixth UT player to record a perfect half from three-point range with a minimum of five attempts since the 1986-87 season by going 5-of-5 in the first period. Disu also recorded UT's ninth perfect half from the floor (minimum of 6 attempts) since 1949-50 and accomplished this for the second time in his career as he went 7-of-7 in the first half. In his first 11 conference games this year, Disu has averaged a team-best 18.9 points and 5.3 rebounds with 14 blocks while converting .571 (77-149) from the floor, including .531 (26-49) from three-point range in 27.8 minutes per contest.

Missi had his best week as a Bear, averaging 19 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks against No. 23 Texas Tech and No. 4 Kansas. The freshman center contributed 17 points and seven rebounds against the Red Raiders, including three highlight-reel dunks. Additionally, Missi went a career-best 7-of-8 (.875) from the free-throw line. A 53% free-throw shooter entering the week, Missi had another career night from the charity stripe, going 9-of-12 against the Jayhawks and finished the week 16-for-20 (.800). His nine points from the line aided his 21-point output against KU to go along with his game-high eight rebounds. Missi's night at Allen Fieldhouse was the best among recent Baylor freshmen, netting the most points in Lawrence since Jared Butler had 31 in January of 2019. The league's second-best shot blocker added one against Texas Tech and two more against Kansas, keeping him second in the conference in blocks per game (1.7).
