Texas Tech's Darrion Williams (player) and Arizona State's Jayden Quaintance (newcomer) were voted for the final Big 12 men's basketball weekly awards of the calendar year. With a limited schedule of games prior to December 30, the next set of weekly honors will be announced on January 6.
Williams led the Red Raiders to a pair of wins to close non-conference play, averaging 16.5 points, 7.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds. The junior from Sacramento, CA, had a season-high 23 points in the win against Lamar on Saturday, adding seven rebounds and five assists. Williams had 10 points, nine assists and four rebounds against Oral Roberts on Monday. He shot 50.0 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from behind the 3-point line, sinking five triples over the week. It is his second career Big 12 Player of the Week honor, after earning the distinction in the final week of the 2023-24 regular season.
Quaintance was the MVP of the Springfield Basketball Hall of Fame Classic, leading the Sun Devils to a 78-62 win over Massachusetts. The freshman finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, marking his third double-double of the season. The forward from Cleveland was an efficient 8-of-14 from the field, plus impacted the game on the defensive end with four blocks, increasing his nation-leading average to 3.45 per game. It was his four game of double-digit rebounds and his sixth double-digit scoring output in the previous seven games, earning his first career Big 12 weekly honor.
