Kansas' Hunter Dickinson (player) and Zeke Mayo (co-newcomer) plus Iowa State's Joshua Jefferson (co-newcomer) were voted for Big 12 men's basketball weekly awards for games ending December 15.
Dickinson had 21 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists and no turnovers in the Jayhawks' 75-60 win over NC State, becoming the first player in Division I since at least 1996-97 to post that stat line or better in a single game. Dickinson had his 53rd career double-double in the game, while shooting 9-of-13 from the floor. The eight assists marked a career high for him, as he was named Big 12 Player of the Week for the third time this season and sixth time overall.
Jefferson averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists while posting a 10-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio in a pair of Cyclone wins. Jefferson scored 19 points with 10 rebounds, seven assists and no turnovers in the 89-80 win at Iowa, becoming the first Big 12 player with that stat line or better, before Dickinson joined him less than 48 hours later. The forward followed with 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists in Sunday's 83-51 win over Omaha. It is the second consecutive newcomer honor for Jefferson.
Mayo had a game-high 26 points in the KU win over the Wolfpack, going 9-for-14 from the field. The senior from Lawrence, Kansas went 5-for-9 on 3-pointers, matching a season-high for treys. It is the second time the guard who transferred from North Dakota State reached the 20+ point plateau this season, joining a 21-point effort against North Carolina, and he has captured Big 12 Newcomer of the Week each time.
