Kansas' Hunter Dickinson (player), BYU's Egor Demin (co-newcomer) and Arizona State's Joson Sanon (co-newcomer) were picked by a panel of media for Big 12 weekly men's basketball awards. Dickinson and Demin reprise their roles as weekly award winners from the first week of the season, while Sanon becomes the first Sun Devil men's basketball player to win a Big 12 weekly award.
Dickinson led Kansas to a 77-69 win over Michigan State with a 28-point, 12-rebound performance that marked his 50th career double-double. In addition to a season high in points, the center was 13-of-21 from the field and added a career-high three steals as the Jayhawks won at the Champions Classic for the eighth time in the last nine events. He had 10 points and nine rebounds in the 78-57 win over Oakland. Dickinson becomes the first Big 12 player to win back-to-back Player of the Week nods since West Virginia's RaeQuan Battle did on Dec. 28-Jan. 2 last season and captured his fifth player of the week nod.
Demin averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks as BYU ran its record to 4-0 with a pair of wins. The 6'9" guard scored 14 points off 6-of-9 shooting in the 99-55 win over Queens (N.C.), adding five assists in the contest. In the game against Idaho, Demin had 16 points, seven assists, three steals and three blocks, becoming one of five freshmen since 1992 to post that stat line. He is the first newcomer to win back-to-back awards since Dickinson accomplished the feat in the first two weeks of the 2023-24 season.
Sanon averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds, while shooting 60.9% from the field and going 8-for-12 on 3-pointers. In a neutral-site game against Grand Canyon, the freshman scored 21 points on only 12 field goal attempts, marking the highest point total for an Arizona State freshman since the 2020-21 season. Sanon scored 18 points with nine rebounds against St. Thomas (Minn.), which moved the Sun Devils to 4-1 for only the third time in the Bobby Hurley era.
