Kansas' Hunter Dickinson (player) and Zeke Mayo (co-newcomer), along with BYU's Egor Demin (co-newcomer) earned the first set of Big 12 men’s basketball weekly awards for leading their teams to 2-0 starts of the season.

Dickinson averaged 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as the No. 1 Jayhawks started the season 2-0. The Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year showed his pedigree with a 20-point, 10-rebound performance in the 92-89 win over No. 9 North Carolina, one of just three 20-10 games against a ranked opponent this season. The graduate student scored the final three points of the contest, breaking the tie with a basket then hitting a free throw to go up three with 17 seconds remaining. The Alexandria, Virginia native pursuing a masters in sport management had 16 points, six rebounds and tied a career-high with three steals in the season opening 87-57 win against Howard. It is his seventh Big 12 weekly honor and fourth Player of the Week nod.

Mayo had a team-leading 21 points in the KU win against the Tar Heels, adding five rebounds and four assists. The senior transfer combined with Dickinson to score the last seven points of the contest including his game-tying basket with 1:44 to play, erasing the Jayhawks’ final deficit. Mayo went 5-for-8 from 3-point range in the season opener, his first home game in his hometown of Lawrence, scoring 19 points against Howard. The Liberal Arts & Sciences major picks up his first Big 12 weekly award and is one of six players nationally averaging 20.0+ points off the bench this season.

Demin averaged 19.0 points and 9.0 assists to lead BYU to a 2-0 start. In the season-opening victory over Central Arkansas, the guard from Moscow, Russia became just the second freshman in Big 12 history to finish with 10+ points and 10+ assists in his collegiate debut, going for 18 points and 11 assists to go along with four steals. The freshman’s 11 dimes are also the most in a debut performance in BYU program history. He had 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds in the Cougars’ win over UC Riverside, including an 8-for-11 mark from the field. He is the first BYU men’s basketball player to earn a Big 12 weekly award.
