TCU's Emanuel Miller, UT's Max Abmas Collect Big 12 Men's Basketball Week 10 Honors
POSTED: January 15, 2024 -- 1:13 p.m. CT
TCU's Emanuel Miller was named Big 12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week while Texas' Max Abmas claimed Newcomer of the Week. Each picked up their second honor of the season while Miller earned the third in his career.
Miller averaged 20 points, six rebounds and three assists in TCU's two wins over top 10 teams last week. The senior forward scored 27 points, two shy of his career high, and added a season-best nine rebounds in an 80-71 win over No. 9 Oklahoma on Wednesday. Miller was 11-of-17 from the field against the Sooners and 19 of his points came in the second half. Miller scored a team-high 13 points, including the go-ahead shot with 6.7 seconds remaining, in the Horned Frogs' 68-67 win over No. 2 Houston on Saturday. It was the second time in program history that TCU recorded back-to-back wins over top 10 ranked teams.
In UT's two contests, Abmas averaged 23.5 points and 4.0 assists in 36.0 minutes per game while converting 48.4-percent (15-31) from the floor, including a 50-percent (10-20) mark from three-point range, and 87.5-percent (7-8) from the free throw line. During Tuesday's victory at Cincinnati, the graduate guard posted 15 points and five assists in 35 minutes and knocked down the game-winning shot from the right baseline with 6.2 seconds remaining. Abmas returned on Saturday at West Virginia and registered a season-high 32 points, three assists and three steals in 37 minutes. His seven 3-pointers tied his collegiate career high and marked the seventh time in his career that he had hit seven three-pointers in a game. It also marked the 19th time in his collegiate career that he has topped the 30-point mark. Abmas has moved into a tie for No. 17 with the legendary Larry Bird (Indiana State) on the NCAA all-time Division I career scoring points list (2,850).
