Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week Tips Off

POSTED: January 24, 2022 -- 11:40 a.m. CT

Suits And Sneakers Week, the signature in-season initiative of the American Cancer Society and NABC's Coaches vs. Cancer program, officially tips off today. Running through January 30, the nationwide campaign will unite coaches across the country to raise funds and awareness about the fight against cancer and promote the American Cancer Society as a source of inspiration and hope for those facing cancer.

During Suits And Sneakers Week, coaches from all levels of the sport will wear specially designed Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers apparel along with their favorite sneakers on the sidelines to raise awareness about the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. Alternate versions of the coaches’ apparel are available for fans and supporters (click HERE), with net proceeds of shirt sales benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.

"The American Cancer Society and the NABC are truly making a difference in the fight against cancer through the Coaches vs. Cancer program," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "Though we may be opponents on the court, the thousands of coaches who support Coaches vs. Cancer by participating in Suits And Sneakers Week are all united behind the common goal of defeating this awful disease. Suits And Sneakers Week brings out the best in our coaches and our sport."

"Our collaboration with the NABC and the coaches is invaluable," said Natalie Morrison, American Cancer Society's Strategic Director, Coaches vs. Cancer and Sports Alliances. “Together, we are making notable progress in saving lives and improving health outcomes for cancer patients and their caregivers."

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a unique set of challenges for cancer patients and survivors who’ve had to pause their treatments and screening protocols. Coaches participating in Suits And Sneakers Week help raise visibility and funds to support the American Cancer Society’s work to help cancer patients and survivors safely resume treatments and screenings, and contribute in a meaningful way to the mission to end cancer.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the NABC. The program empowers basketball and other athletic coaches to save lives from cancer by leveraging their community leadership to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. Since the program’s inception in 1993, coaches have raised over $140 million for the American Cancer Society.
