Tulsa's Brandon Rachal and USF's Caleb Murphy Earn AAC Men's Basketball Weekly Awards for week ending January 3

The American Athletic Conference announced the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the sixth week of the 2020-21 season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brandon Rachal * Senior * Guard * Tulsa
Rachal helped lead the Golden Hurricane to a 2-0 week, making the winning free throws in Tulsa's win over No. 5 Houston on Tuesday (December 29). The senior guard followed that up with a 25-point, 13-rebound performance in a road win at Cincinnati on Saturday (January 2).
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Caleb Murphy * Guard * USF
Murphy averaged 13.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a 1-1 week for the Bulls. The freshman guard posted 20 points at Memphis on Tuesday and seven points in a win over rival UCF on Saturday (January 2).
Weekly Honor Roll
Darius Perry * Senior * Guard * UCF
Perry recorded 23 points, six assists and two rebounds in his first start for the Knights against USF on Saturday (January 2).
Justin Gorham * Senior * Forward * Houston
Gorham averaged 9.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Cougars. He posted 11 points and a conference season-high 19 rebounds in Houston's road win at SMU on Sunday (January 3).
Kendric Davis * Junior * Guard * SMU
Davis averaged 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists as the Mustangs went 1-1 last week. The junior guard recorded 23 points and eight rebounds against then-No. 5 Houston on Sunday (January 3).
Jaylen Forbes * Sophomore * Guard * Tulane
Forbes scored 20 points and added five steals and three assists in the Green Wave's win against East Carolina on Saturday (January 2).
Tyson Etienne * Sophomore * Guard * Wichita State
Etienne helped lead the Shockers to a win on the road at Ole Miss on Saturday (January 2) with 29 points, including five 3-point field goals, and three rebounds.
