UConn's Christian Vital, Houston's Marcus Sasser Earn AAC Men's Basketball Weekly Awards for week ending March 2

The American Athletic Conference announced the men's basketball weekly honors for week ending March 2.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Christian Vital, Senior, Guard, UConn

Vital aided the Huskies to a pair of wins by averaging 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 assists last week. The senior guard tallied a game-high 27 points, including five 3-pointers, against ECU on Saturday (Feb. 29) after recording 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals against UCF on Wednesday (Feb. 26).

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Marcus Sasser, Guard, Houston

Sasser helped lead the Cougars back into a tie for first place in The American standings with 21 points and six rebounds in Houston's 68-55 win over Cincinnati. The freshman had five big 3-point field goals in the Cougars' win.

Weekly Honor Roll

James Bouknight, Freshman, Guard, UConn

Bouknight averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of wins for the Huskies, including a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds against ECU.

Precious Achiuwa, Freshman, Forward, Memphis

Achiuwa averaged 19.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Tigers. He recorded 22 points and 22 rebounds in an overtime win at Tulane.

Justin Brown, Junior, Guard, USF

Brown averaged 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while leading the Bulls in both points and rebounds in two wins last week.

Lawson Korita, Senior, Guard, Tulsa

Korita averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds in a pair of wins for Tulsa, including a 20-point performance on Senior Day.

Dexter Dennis, Sophomore, Guard, Wichita State

Dennis led the Shockers to a 24-point second-half comeback win at SMU on Sunday with 25 points, including seven 3-pointers.
