HBU Men's Basketball signs Jake Arnold to National Letter of Intent

POSTED: November 13, 2020 -- 5:35 p.m. CT

Friday morning, James Sears Bryant Head Men's Basketball Coach Ron Cottrell announced the signing of local product Jake Arnold to a National Letter of Intent for the 2021-22 season.

Arnold, a 6'3" guard from nearby Katy Taylor High School where he plays for Coach Matt Brayton, will join the Huskies after earning all-region honors as a junior. He averaged 23.5 points per game during his junior season, connecting on 50.5 percent from the floor while adding 6.5 rebounds and two steals per game. In addition to his all-region recognition, he was a first team all-district performer and was among the final 25 candidates for the Guy V. Lewis Award, recognizing the top high school basketball player in the greater Houston area. Off the court, Arnold his a member of the National Honor Society.

"I picked HBU because it is the place I feel I can call home for my next four years," Arnold said. "The system fits my style of play and it's in my hometown where my family can watch me play."

"Jake Arnold is a Katy Taylor product who is one of the best shooters in the city," Coach Cottrell said. "He's been coached by a former manager of ours in Brian Nutt and is a quality young man who is going to fit into our program immediately. We're proud to have a local product with such high character who we feel can come in and make an immediate impact on the offensive end of the floor. I expect him to quickly mesh with our team and our campus community."
