Wichita State's Erik Stevenson, Memphis' Precious Achiuwa Earn AAC Men's Basketball Weekly Awards for week ending January 6

The American Athletic Conference announced the men's basketball weekly honors for week ending January 6.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Erik Stevenson, Sophomore, Guard, Wichita State

Stevenson average 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals in a pair of wins for the Shockers last week. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 29 points against Ole Miss on Saturday (Jan. 4) after recording 17 points, nine rebounds, five steals and five assists in the conference opener against ECU.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Precious Achiuwa, Forward, Memphis

Achiuwa averaged a double-double with 17.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in the Tigers’ 1-1 week. The forward had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the conference-opening win over Tulane before recording 20 points and a season-high 15 rebounds against Georgia on Saturday.

Weekly Honor Roll

Jayden Gardner, Sophomore, Forward, ECU

Gardner recorded 29 points and 10 rebounds and was 12-of-20 from the field (60.0 percent) in the Pirates’ 75-69 loss at Wichita State.

Nate Hinton, Sophomore, Guard, Houston

Hinton posted a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds along with five steals and three assists in the Cougars' 78-63 win over UCF.

Kendric Davis, Sophomore, Guard, SMU

Davis averaged 18.0 points, 7.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in SMU's two wins last week. He scored eight points in overtime in the win at Vanderbilt.

Christion Thompson, Graduate-transfer, Guard, Tulane

Thompson averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 1-1 week for the Green Wave, including 20 points and nine rebounds in the win over Cincinnati.

Jeriah Horne, Redshirt-Junior, Forward, Tulsa

Horne scored 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds in Tulsa's 70-44 win over Temple.
