UCF's Fall named AAC Player of the Week and Wichita State's Burton named AAC's Freshman of the Week

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the 17th week of the men's college basketball season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tacko Fall - UCF - Senior - Center - Dakar, Senegal

Fall led UCF to a 2-0 week that included a victory that vaulted the Knights into the Associated Press Top-25 poll for the first time in eight years. The senior center averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds as UCF started the week with a road win in the latest chapter of the War on I4 with a victory over in-state rival USF. UCF then went on to face off against No. 8/6 Houston in ESPN's College GameDay host site and pulled the upset victory to clinch a bye in the American Athletic Conference Championship. It was the Knights highest ranked win against a road team in program history and ended Houston's 33-game home win streak. Fall shot 63.0-percent from the field and shot nearly 20 percentage points higher than his season average at the free throw line. He recorded his fifth double-double of the season and 23rd of his career in the win over the Cougars with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Jamarius Burton - Wichita State - Guard - Charlotte, NC

Burton earns his second Freshman of the Week award and gives Wichita State back-to-back freshman honors after Dexter Dennis got the award last week. The point guard Averaged 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in two Shocker wins against UConn and at SMU. Burton finished with a 5.0-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and has tallied at least five assists in each of his last four games. Burton's 93 assists this year are the third-highest single-season total for a freshman in school history. The Shockers have now won seven of their past nine games.

HONOR ROLL

Shizz Alston, Jr. - Temple - Senior - Guard

Averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 assists 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week. Set a program record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer made (40) and became the eighth Owl with 400 career assists.

Jarron Cumberland - Cincinnati - Junior - Guard

Averaged 19.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists with wins at SMU and vs. Memphis. Had 26 points and went 13-of-16 from the line in the win over the Tigers. He now has seven 25-plus point games this season.

Samajae Haynes-Jones - Wichita State - Senior - Guard

Scored 20 points, including a game-winning buzzer-beater against UConn. It was his second last-second gamewinner of the year. Averaged 12.5 points in a 2-0 week for the Shockers as they also won at SMU.

Jeremiah Martin - Memphis - Senior - Guard

Averaged 29.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists on a 54.1 percent shooting in a 1-1 week. Posted his 13th and 14th 20-point games of the season. One of three players in the NCAA to average 30 points in February.

Curran Scott - Tulsa - Redshirt-Junior - Guard

Averaged 21.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, on a 68.2-percent field goal percentage, in a 2-0 week. Hit a season-high four 3-pointers against Tulane. Scored a season-high 23 points with four assists versus ECU.
