The Houston Cougars (31-3) lost to Cincinnati, 69-57, in Sunday's American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship game. However, Houston went 2-1 in the AAC Tournament which helped Houston move up 1 spot to 9th in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 and remain 11th in the Associated Press Top 25 national polls. Both polls were announced Monday. In addition to those polls, Houston moved up to 4th in the NCAA's latest NET rankings.

Houston received 494 points to rank No. 9 in the Week 19 USA TODAY Coaches' Poll (496 points and 10th in the Week 18 poll). Houston received 933 points stay in the rank 11th spot in the Week 20 Associated Press Top 25 Poll (11th last week with 963 points in the Week 19 poll).

As of the games played through March 10th Houston is ranked 4th in the NCAA's NET Rankings. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.

The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.

It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.

Houston is a 3-seed in the Midwest Regional of the NCAA Tournament. Houston's next game is Friday, March 22, against 14-seed Georgia State, in Tulsa, OK, in the 'Second Round' of the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, at 6:20 p.m., on TBS.
